Artificial intelligence (AI)

Artificial intelligence covers methods that let computers perceive, understand language, recognise patterns, support decisions or generate content. Most of today’s AI systems learn their behaviour from data instead of having every rule programmed by hand.

In everyday life, AI appears in translators, spam filters, recommendations, image recognition and chat assistants. Importantly, today’s AI is specialised in particular tasks and has no consciousness – it computes likely answers based on learned patterns.
