EU AI Act
Also: KI-Verordnung · KI-VO · Verordnung (EU) 2024/1689
The European Union’s AI regulation – the first comprehensive law regulating AI.
The AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) entered into force in August 2024; its obligations apply in stages from 2025. It follows a risk-based approach: certain practices such as social scoring are prohibited, high-risk systems are subject to strict requirements, and others mainly face transparency obligations. There are specific rules for providers of general-purpose AI models.
Swiss companies can also be affected, for example if they offer AI systems in the EU or their outputs are used in the EU. Individual deadlines and details are being clarified by the EU on an ongoing basis – specific cases merit expert review.
