AI regulation in Switzerland

Switzerland relies on existing laws and targeted amendments rather than a comprehensive AI act of its own.

In February 2025 the Federal Council decided to ratify the Council of Europe’s AI Convention and to adapt Swiss law sector by sector, for example on protection against discrimination and transparency. A comprehensive AI law along EU lines is not planned.

Existing laws already apply to AI today – above all the Data Protection Act (FADP), but also copyright, personality, unfair competition and liability law.
