A neural network that uses small filters to detect local patterns in images.

CNNs slide small filters across an image, detecting edges, textures and shapes regardless of where they appear. Deeper layers combine these into more complex objects.

From around 2012, CNNs triggered the breakthrough in image recognition and are still used in many industrial and medical applications today.
