An application programming interface through which software can use an AI model directly – without a chat interface.
Through an AI provider’s API, an application sends requests to a model and receives the answer in machine-readable form. This allows models to be built into your own websites, apps, CRM systems or automations.
Billing is usually per token. Important for businesses: many providers have different data protection and training rules for API and business offerings than for free consumer products.
