A graphics processor that performs many calculations in parallel and is therefore the workhorse of AI.
Originally developed for computer games, GPUs are ideally suited to the matrix calculations of neural networks. Training and running large models takes place in data centres on thousands of networked GPUs.
Besides computing power, graphics memory is crucial: it determines how large a model can run on one card. High demand makes GPUs a scarce and expensive resource.
