Umbrella term for AI systems that plan, act and complete tasks independently over longer workflows.

While a chat assistant answers individual questions, agentic AI takes on entire workflows: it reads emails, creates tickets, updates databases or writes and tests program code.

The degree of autonomy can vary greatly – from suggestions confirmed by a human to fully automatic processes. For businesses, finding the right level is a core question of AI governance.
