A model solves a task without a single example – based on the description alone.
With zero-shot prompting you simply describe what you want, e.g. “Assign this customer message to one of the categories billing, delivery or technical”. Large language models can handle many such tasks without examples.
If the quality is not sufficient, moving to few-shot often helps: a few good examples in the prompt.
